The register lists 10 live models, from the type 456 to the R-57, built between 1967 and 1977. Output ranges from 20.6 to 40.5 kW, or 45 to 55 hp, weight from 1,530 to 2,000 kg, displacement from 1,701 to 2,552 cm3, across two-, three- and four-cylinder engines.
Type designations shift within the series between three-digit numbers (456) and the later R nomenclature (R-55, R-56, R-57), reflecting the gradual standardisation of model names at Renault Agriculture through the 1970s.
As light general-purpose tractors with a vineyard option, the series targeted mixed farms and specialty crops alike.
When buying a used example of this early Renault series, clutch and mechanical gearbox condition, the tightness of the lift hydraulics, and rust on chassis, mudguards and the radiator surround after decades of field use all matter; on air-cooled versions, cooling fins and fan as well, and on water-cooled ones, the radiator and hoses. Renault Agriculture was later fully absorbed into the Claas group, so parts for this early series now run mainly through independent farm-machinery workshops and used-parts dealers rather than a Renault network of its own.
