The Boxer serves the mid and upper van segment in competition with the VW Crafter, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Iveco Daily, and is converted by numerous body builders into box trucks, refrigerated vehicles and motorhomes; the smaller special variants such as the First'Eo instead serve niches for inner-city delivery traffic.

On a used example, check rust on the rear wheel arches and door sills typical of the Sevel platform, the timing belt change on the HDi diesel engines, the condition of the clutch under sustained heavy loads, and on the heavier chassis variants the rear leaf springs; on conversions by Theault and other coachbuilders, also check the body mounting points.
