From the mid-1970s, the 200 series replaced the successful 100 generation, carrying its proven concept over to more contemporary cabs and engines without abandoning the underlying philosophy of a simple, rugged working tractor.

The register lists 13 live models, from the MF 230 to the MF 290, built between 1975 and 1986. Output ranges from 28 to 64.7 kW, or 38 to 75 hp, weight from 1,730 to 3,190 kg, displacement from 2,500 to 5,222 cm3, across three- and four-cylinder engines.

As with the 100 series, the 200 range covered a wide power band and was offered in parallel as standard and four-wheel-drive versions, with the stronger models such as the MF 290 already edging into the subsequent 300 class.

For many mid-sized European farms, the MF 200 was, for decades, the embodiment of the solid all-purpose tractor.

When buying a used 200 series, clutch and mechanical gearbox condition, tightness of the Ferguson System hydraulics at the lift, and rust on panels and mudguards after decades of field use all matter; on four-wheel-drive versions, the condition of the front axle and its joints as well. PTO and three-point hitch follow ISO 730 Category I at 540 rpm, and parts for the widely used Perkins engines remain broadly available today; the hydraulic gear pump in particular wears after high operating hours and its output should be checked.
