Lanz – other Bulldog models from Mannheim: the collective page of the Bulldog, HL, HM and HP types, single-cylinders of 3.8 to 6.4 litres, 6 to 16 kW, running on tar oil, crude oil, paraffin and diesel
This page gathers the Lanz Bulldog types the register could not assign to their own range: Bulldog, HL, HM and HP. Heinrich Lanz AG of Mannheim, a farm-machinery maker since 1859, launched the Bulldog in 1921 with its single-cylinder two-stroke hot-bulb engine, the first field tractor fit for mass production; in 1956 John Deere took over the works, which remains Deere's largest tractor plant outside North America to this day.

The register lists here 4 versions with 5.9 to 16.1 kW or 8 to 12 hp from the throughout single-cylinder engine of 3,818 to 6,400 cm³ displacement at rated speeds of 420 to 500 rpm. Unladen weights range from 1,150 to 3,330 kg, lengths from 2,050 to 3,180 mm, widths from 1,250 to 1,900 mm and heights from 2,130 to 2,345 mm; fuels used were tar oil, crude oil, paraffin and diesel.
The Bulldog's hot-bulb engine burned practically any available raw fuel, making the tractor independent of diesel shortages and prices – a decisive advantage for farmers from the 1920s to the 1950s that helped make the Bulldog the most widely built German field tractor of its era.
On a used example, the condition of the hot bulb, cylinder liner and water jacket, tightness of the oil sump, condition of the large flywheel, and rust on chassis, mudguards and bonnet after decades of use count; parts for the single-cylinder Bulldogs are available through specialist Lanz Bulldog workshops and vintage-machinery dealers.
