Refrigerated boxes on the Sprinter and Vito are the backbone of the last mile of the cold chain: butchers, bakeries, caterers and fresh-food distributors rely on the 3.5-tonne class because it can be driven on a B96 or BE licence and stays permitted in city centres, where bigger refrigerated trucks run into low-emission zones and delivery time windows.

On a used example, the condition of the refrigeration unit comes first – compressor, condenser and controller are the most expensive wear items –, then the tightness of the insulation panels, since moisture in the box floor is a common problem, the condition of the bulkhead and door seals, and on the chassis rust on the sills and springs.
