With the 5010 series, John Deere introduced the successor generation to the 5000-series utility tractors at its Augusta plant in Georgia; the types 5210, 5310, 5410 and 5510 recorded in the register carry, like their predecessors, the A suffix denoting the Augusta production site. Compared with the previous series, engine power, displacement and weight of the 5010-series types increased noticeably.

The 5010 series covers the upper end of the utility-tractor segment relative to the 5000 series, and is aimed at operations with more demanding field, feeding and transport tasks that need more power and pulling force than the smaller utility types offer, competing with comparable ranges from Case IH, New Holland and Massey Ferguson.
On a used 5010-series tractor, the condition of the hydraulics and lift linkage, the tightness of the gearbox and axles, the diesel engine's mileage, and rust on the mudguards and bonnet all count; parts are well available through John Deere's dense dealer network.
