Mogul, alongside Titan, was one of the two early tractor lines of the International Harvester Company, formed in 1902 from the merger of McCormick and Deering, which for its first decades ran the two founding companies' product lines in parallel. Mogul tractors were typical American prairie machines of the 1900s and 1910s: heavy, slow-running single- and twin-cylinder engines, built to run on kerosene or raw distillate instead of costlier petrol, with the double type designation such as 'Mogul 10-20' or 'Mogul 15-30' giving drawbar and belt horsepower.

The register lists 6 versions with outputs of 16 to 60 hp, 1 to 2 cylinders and very low rated speeds of 240 to 400 rpm – typical of the ponderous slow-running engines of this early tractor generation. Fuel recorded includes petrol, kerosene and a distillate-kerosene blend; the engines are mostly International's own, with one model listing 'Famous' as the fitted engine's make.

The Mogul range targeted the large grain farms of the American prairie and the belt-driven operation of stationary threshers; its ability to run on cheaper but harder-igniting kerosene instead of petrol was an important selling point at a time of rising petrol prices. As lighter, faster-running tractors spread in the 1920s, Mogul and Titan disappeared in favour of unified IHC ranges such as the Farmall.

On these early machines, preservation as a historic collector's piece counts above all: the function of ignition and carburettor or kerosene vaporiser, the condition of flywheel, belt pulley and gearing, and corrosion on cast and sheet-metal parts; spare parts are practically the exclusive domain of specialist tractor restorers.
