Hymer was founded in 1957 by Erwin Hymer in Bad Waldsee in Upper Swabia and ranks among Europe's largest makers of motorhomes and caravans. Because the models gathered here are built on van and light-commercial chassis, they are registered as vans rather than as a separate motorhome class. The B-Class series (B514 to BC664) denotes semi-integrated motorhomes, where the number codes the length or floorplan; the Starliner and RIO are fully integrated models on their own chassis, and the Eriba Hymermobil carries the name of Eriba, a Bad Waldsee-based brand belonging to the Hymer group.

Hymer motorhomes sit in the upper price segment, competing there with brands such as Dethleffs, Bürstner and Concorde; the base is usually a Fiat Ducato or Mercedes Sprinter chassis. The used market is large in central Europe, with a focus on well-kept vehicles with documented service history.
