Deutz MTZ

The register lists 3 versions here with 19.9 to 26.4 kW (27 to 36 hp) from two cylinders with a constant 5,722 cc displacement. Kerb weight ranges from 2,650 to 4,020 kg, length from 2,950 to 3,075 mm, width from 1,800 to 1,840 mm and height from 1,780 to 1,900 mm. Rated speed varies by model between 600 and 1,100 rpm, and all three engines run on diesel.

With the two-cylinder diesel engine, the MTZ range moved Deutz technically towards the multi-cylinder diesel tractors that would later become standard, superseding the slower multi-fuel engines of earlier ranges. Tractors like this covered the mechanisation of medium-sized farms during the post-war reconstruction period, with enough power in reserve for ploughing, harrowing and simple towing work.

When buying a used MTZ, check the condition of the injection pump and injectors, compression in both cylinders, wear on the clutch and gearbox, and corrosion on the frame, mudguards and radiator after long periods of storage. Spare parts are now supplied by dealers specialising in historic Deutz tractors; factory support for this early range no longer exists.
