The DX range formed the top power class within the Deutz programme in the 1980s, with air-cooled six-cylinder engines in place of the smaller four-cylinders used in the other ranges. The DX 8.30 was built from 1983 to 1988 as one of the more powerful models in this range.

The air-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine with 9,572 cm³ of displacement produces 220 hp, or 162 kW, at 2,200 rpm, with 810 Nm of torque. At 9,250 kg, 5,427 mm long, 3,190 mm high and 2,500 mm wide, the tractor has a top speed limited to 25 km/h with a 3,012 mm wheelbase.

With 162 kW from a large, air-cooled six-cylinder engine, the DX 8.30 was among the most powerful field tractors of its time and was built for primary tillage of large areas with wide ploughs and cultivators and for heavy towed loads, not for work with light implements. The chassis, limited to 25 km/h, shows the focus on field work rather than road transport.

When buying a used DX 8.30, the condition of the large air-cooled six-cylinder engine matters, particularly the cooling fan, cylinder fins and oil consumption at high hours. Also worth checking are the clutch, gearbox and final drives, which are heavily loaded given this weight and torque, as well as the tightness of the hydraulic system for heavy towed implements and any corrosion on the frame after decades of field use.
