In Europe BYD's commercial vehicles have so far competed chiefly in urban distribution transport and with municipal and commercial fleets that benefit from locally emission-free operation, competing there with established electric-lorry offerings from Volvo, DAF, Mercedes-Benz and MAN as well as other Chinese makers.
On electric lorries such as the BYD models, the condition and charge cycles of the battery, warranty and residual-value questions around the battery, the condition of the charging connectors, and the braking system and body count above all; unlike with a diesel lorry, servicing focuses on electronics, drivetrain cooling and tyres rather than on the engine and gearbox.
