The register lists 178 versions here with engines from 85 to 408 kW from 1,499 to 4,800 cm³ displacement with 3 to 8 cylinders, kerb weights from 1,090 to 2,585 kg and gross weights from 1,390 to 4,035 kg.

The span from small three-cylinder diesels to eight-cylinder models shows that practically the whole 3 and 5 Series line-up of the respective model years ran under this registration type once the interior was converted into pure load space.

On used vehicles of this kind, as on any used 3 or 5 Series, what counts is the timing chain or belt, turbocharger and injectors of the diesel engines, suspension bushes and brakes, and – when used commercially – the condition of the load floor and bulkhead; spare parts run through the regular BMW network and the independent parts trade.
