Yanmar was founded in 1912 in Osaka and in 1933 built the world's first practical small diesel engine with the type HB; from this engine expertise a dedicated compact-tractor programme grew from the 1960s, which Yanmar still fits almost entirely with its own diesels. AF, EF and CT denote its own model series with an attached power or generation number, D at the end marking a four-wheel-drive version on several types. The engines come exclusively from Yanmar itself, including the water-cooled 3TNV and 4TNV series.
