Valmet 65 series – Finnish farm tractors of the late 1970s and 1980s from Suolahti: 365 to 865, 45 to 64 kW, Sisu-Valmet engines
The Valmet 65 series from Finland followed the 55 series in the late 1970s and 1980s and bundles the three- and four-cylinder tractors 365 to 865. The -4 suffix marks four-wheel drive as in the 55 series; the engines came from the company's own plant and ran under the Sisu-Valmet name, as with the type 310 unit.

The register lists here 5 versions with 44.9 to 64 kW or 52 to 80 hp from three- to four-cylinders of 3,298 to 4,397 cc, unladen weights from 2,820 to 3,280 kg, a lift capacity of 1,350 kg, lengths from 3,710 to 4,000 mm, widths from 2,030 to 2,040 mm and heights from 2,570 to 2,655 mm, torque from 220 to 310 Nm at a rated speed of 2,350 rpm.
Like the 55 series, the 65 series was built at the Suolahti plant for the Finnish and Scandinavian market; it covered a somewhat higher power class and came at the transition from the Valmet brand to the later renaming as Valtra. It thus closed the gap in the Valmet programme between the 55 series and the bigger ranges of the following years, sharing the same design philosophy and plant.
On the 65 series, what counts is the condition and compression of the Sisu-Valmet diesel, the condition of the four-wheel-drive clutch on the -4 models, the tightness of the hydraulics and lift, and rust on the cab and mudguards; parts today run through the successor network of Valtra.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
