Two prefixes coexist: "TR" is the older series designation, "GR" the current global line. According to Tadano's own technical spec sheets, numerous TR models were directly renamed into GR models (for example TR-800XXL-4 into a corresponding GR model) — GR is therefore mostly a successor name rather than a parallel one.
Trailing suffixes such as XL, EX or E denote the equipment level and boom configuration. In the SpecCodex database, engine output for the recorded vehicles ranges from 100 to 213 kW, displacement from 3,900 to 12,503 cm³, and torque from 480 to 1,196 Nm — in all 18 fully recorded cases these are 6-cylinder engines.
When buying used, check the condition of the boom slide pads and outrigger cylinders, and compare the load chart against the actual boom length in use — the model number alone says nothing about achievable working radius.
