Renault Kerax – the construction truck from the 260.19 to the 520.42: type code from engine power in hp and gross weight in tonnes, 4×4 to 8×4
The Renault Kerax is the construction and heavy-duty truck introduced in 1997 by Renault Véhicules Industriels, replacing the Major/Maxter and built until 2013 as a tipper, concrete-mixer chassis and off-road tractor unit. The type designation gives the engine power in horsepower before the separator and the gross weight in tonnes after it, for instance the Kerax 420.34 with about 420 hp and a 34-tonne gross weight; the following codes such as 4X4, 6X4, 6X6 and 8X4 give the number of wheels and driven axles.

The register lists here 23 versions with 188 to 368 kW output, displacements from 9,830 to 12,800 cm³, unladen weights from 7,370 to 30,800 kg, gross weights from 11,990 to 51,000 kg, lengths from 6,900 to 10,690 mm and widths from 2,500 to 2,550 mm.
Alongside the Mercedes-Benz Actros/Arocs and the MAN TGS, the Kerax was a standard vehicle in the construction and mining trades, especially in all-wheel-drive form for unpaved terrain; after Renault Trucks renamed its ranges, the successor has traded since 2013 as the C range.
On a used purchase, tippers and concrete-mixer chassis call for checking the condition of the subframe and body, the tightness of the transfer case on all-wheel-drive models, the braking system and suspension, and the engine's operating hours and service history; parts run through the Renault Trucks network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.

- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
