Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi – SUV range with N1 commercial registration: 140 kW, four- to eight-cylinders from 2,488 to 5,600 cm³, unladen weights from 2,112 to 2,551 kg, EURO 3 and EURO 4 with particulate filter

Nissan, founded in Yokohama in 1933, launched the Pathfinder in 1985, initially for the Japanese and North American markets, as an off-road-capable SUV. The versions on this collective page carry the 2.5-litre common-rail diesel dCi, an injection technology developed by Renault and also used in Nissan models under the Renault-Nissan Alliance; the VAN, E3 and EURO4 DPF suffixes mark versions registered as a commercial vehicle without rear seating and the respective emissions stage including particulate filter. Like other car-based models in the van category, the SUV is carried there as an N1 vehicle. The name Pathfinder Armada denoted, in some European markets, the version of this range based on the larger US Armada model, with a V8 engine.

The register lists here 8 versions, one of them with recorded power of 140 kW, with displacements from 2,488 to 5,600 cm³ from four- to eight-cylinders, unladen weights from 2,112 to 2,551 kg at gross vehicle weights from 2,880 to 3,175 kg and widths from 1,850 to 2,020 mm; a length of 4,810 mm is recorded for one version.

In Europe the Pathfinder was mainly in demand as a rugged, strong-towing body-on-frame SUV that also worked as an N1-registered commercial vehicle for trade and business use, where the van registration brought tax advantages.

On a used example, on the diesel engines the turbocharger, injectors and particulate filter count, along with the condition of the four-wheel-drive system and transfer case, rust on the frame and fitted components, and on the V8 version the timing chain and cooling system; parts run through the European Nissan dealer network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
