Nissan, founded in Yokohama in 1933, launched the Pathfinder in 1985, initially for the Japanese and North American markets, as an off-road-capable SUV. The versions on this collective page carry the 2.5-litre common-rail diesel dCi, an injection technology developed by Renault and also used in Nissan models under the Renault-Nissan Alliance; the VAN, E3 and EURO4 DPF suffixes mark versions registered as a commercial vehicle without rear seating and the respective emissions stage including particulate filter. Like other car-based models in the van category, the SUV is carried there as an N1 vehicle. The name Pathfinder Armada denoted, in some European markets, the version of this range based on the larger US Armada model, with a V8 engine.
