Nissan Atleon – the Spanish chassis-cab truck between the Cabstar and the heavy class: type logic from gross weight and power, 110 to 165 kW, four- and six-cylinder diesels, 3.5 to 13 tonnes gross weight

The Nissan Atleon is a medium-duty chassis-cab truck built by Nissan in Ávila, Spain, at the former Nissan Motor Ibérica plant (previously Ebro), positioning the range between the lighter Cabstar and the heavy ranges of sister company Renault. It is sold mainly in Spain, Portugal and Latin America as a base for tippers, flatbeds and box bodies. The type designation follows the pattern common to Nissan and Renault: the first two digits before the point give the gross vehicle weight in tenths of a tonne, the following two the engine power in horsepower divided by ten – Atleon 80.19 is thus about 8.0 tonnes at roughly 190 hp, Atleon 130.22 about 13 tonnes at roughly 220 hp. Suffixes such as WHTTK0 or NHTTK0 mark wheelbase and body variants of the chassis.

The register lists here 9 versions with 110 to 165 kW from four- and six-cylinder diesels of 2,953 to 6,692 cm³, unladen weights from 2,609 to 7,500 kg, gross weights from 3,500 to 13,000 kg, lengths from 6,820 to 9,750 mm and widths from 2,190 to 2,600 mm.

The Atleon competes in its market with the Iveco Eurocargo and the Renault D, covering above all the niche between light vans and classic long-haul trucks; bodybuilders in Spain and Portugal fit it with refrigerated boxes, tippers and municipal bodies.

On used examples, rust on the frame and cab floor, the condition of clutch and gearbox in distribution service, brakes and the trailer coupling on the heavy versions, and the diesel engine's service history count; parts run through the Nissan network and partly Renault's.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
