New Holland's graders have a branching ancestry: the RG models (RG80, RG100, RG140.B, RG170.B, RG200.B) go back to Fiat-Allis, the joint venture of Fiat and Allis-Chalmers, whose grader production at the Brazilian Contagem plant served South America and export; the F models (F106.6, F140, F156.6, F170, F200) come from the line that Fiat-Hitachi and later New Holland gained from the 1998 takeover of Orenstein & Koppel's construction equipment division – the O&K graders from Berlin were regarded as the benchmark in Europe; the G models (G140, G170, G200) are the successors of the 2000s. In all three ranges the number roughly gives the engine output in hp, the suffixes .6 and A mark all-wheel-drive versions and upgrade levels, .B the second generation.

The register lists 15 versions with four- and six-cylinders of 4,980 to 8,300 cm³ – Cummins 6BTA 5.9, 6CTAA 8.3 and QSB 6.7 as well as CNH engines – rated speeds of 2,100 to 2,200 rpm, operating weights from 11,500 to 17,250 kg and lengths from 6,620 to 9,976 mm; the recorded output of the G170 is 130 kW.
The grader is the machine of fine grading: the blade between the axles draws road base, gravel roads and runways level to the millimetre, and the articulation of modern models allows crab steering, in which the rear wheels run beside the track of the front wheels. After 2010 New Holland handed grader production in Europe to Case, which continues the range as the Case 836 to 885.
On used machines, operating hours, wear of blade, circle and blade drive, play in articulation joint and front-axle wheel lean, the condition of transmission and tandem drive and parts supply through CNH are what count.
