McCormick CM series 323 to 824 – compact and mid-range tractors of the brand revived in 2001: three- and four-cylinder diesels, 19 to 54 kW, built by ARGO Tractors in Italy
The name McCormick goes back to Cyrus McCormick and his reaper company, which was absorbed into International Harvester in 1902 and served there as a tractor and harvester brand name into the 1980s. In 2001 the successor group, Case IH, sold the name rights to the Italian ARGO group (Landini, Valpadana), which has since run McCormick as an independent tractor brand headquartered in Fabbrico near Reggio Emilia. The CM series covers the compact and lower mid-range class; the type number orders the models from 323 to 824 by ascending power, and the suffix A marks an equipment variant of the larger 523, 724 and 824 models.

The register lists here 7 versions with 19.1 to 54.4 kW (26 to 67 hp) from three- and four-cylinder diesel engines of 1,825 to 3,911 cm³, torque from 109 to 251 Nm at 1,900 to 2,300 rpm, unladen weights from 1,876 to 3,925 kg, lengths from 3,110 to 3,390 mm, widths from 1,504 to 1,990 mm and heights from 1,434 to 2,489 mm.
In this power segment the CM series targets smaller and medium-sized farms, fruit and wine growing, and municipal users, competing there with Same, Deutz-Fahr and the compact classes of Kubota and New Holland; production takes place at the Italian ARGO plants.
On used examples, what counts is operating hours and service history of the diesel engine, the condition of clutch and gearbox, the hydraulic system and PTO, and rust on wings and cab; parts run through the McCormick/ARGO dealer network, and the series shares some components technically with Landini.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
