McCormick D series – five tractors from the IH plant in Neuss from the 1950s, the D 217 Farmall to the D-326, two- and three-cylinder engines of 12.5 to 18 kW, 1,065 to 1,536 kg unladen weight
The McCormick D series was built in the 1950s at the International Harvester plant in Neuss and comprised both standard tractors and narrow-tread Farmall versions for row-crop work; the register lists here the D 217 Farmall, the D-217 Standard, the D-320 Farmall as well as the D-324 and D-326. The number in the type designation names the model size, the Farmall suffix the narrow build for row crops.

The register lists here five versions with 12.5 to 18 kW, or 17 to 24.5 hp, from two- or three-cylinder engines of 1,217 to 1,825 cm³ displacement, torque from 86 to 99 Nm, unladen weights from 1,065 to 1,536 kg, lengths from 2,570 to 2,750 mm, widths from 1,581 to 1,640 mm and heights from 1,397 to 1,560 mm at a rated speed of 1,900 rpm.
As compact diesel tractors for smaller and medium farms, the D series competed with the small tractors from Deutz, Fendt and Eicher on the German and European market, marking the shift of many farms from horse teams to diesel tractors.
When buying used, the condition of the injection pump and cooling system, wear on clutch and gearbox and corrosion on sheet-metal parts and wings matter; spare parts for the Neuss-built IH engines are available through dealers specialising in historic farm machinery. On the older standard versions, steering geometry and the condition of the front axle also deserve attention.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
