The Manitou 1350R NXT2 is a compact loader from the skid-steer family in which the lift arms travel on a radial path; the R in the name stands for radial. The loader is not steered with a wheel but by differences in wheel speed on the two sides of the machine, which lets it turn on the spot. This trait makes it a standard tool on tight building sites, in halls and on farms.

Radial kinematics offer the greatest reach at mid lift height and thus suit jobs such as digging, levelling and loading trucks near ground level. The addition NXT2 marks at Manitou a revised generation with a diesel engine and hydrostatic drive. Through the quick-hitch plate buckets, forks, brooms or hydraulic hammers can be attached, which makes the loader usable in many ways.

The small machine frame allows transport on a trailer, so firms can move the unit between job sites. For used buyers, operating hours and the condition of the lift-arm bearings and the tires are the main checkpoints.

Manitou – telehandlers and rough-terrain forklifts from France

Manitou comes from Ancenis, France. In 1958 Marcel Braud devised the principle of inverting the layout of a farm tractor and adding a lifting mast and hydraulic steering, creating the first all-terrain forklift. The name "Manitou" was chosen to be pronounceable in any language. The first telescopic forklift for construction followed in 1982, an agricultural version in 1989, and in 1993 the MRT 1540 became the company's first rotating telehandler.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
