MAN built diesel tractors in Nuremberg from 1921 to 1962 and is counted among the pioneers of four-wheel drive in the tractor business; the A range is, alongside the R range, one of two programmes of the Nuremberg works before the tractor division was sold to Fendt in 1962. The type logic runs from the small A 25 A to the large A 50, with the A 32 H/A as row-crop version – H in German tractor nomenclature marks the narrow-track, higher-clearance variant for row-crop farming. The A range, like the R range, served the Bavarian post-war reconstruction market, where MAN competed with Deutz, Hanomag, Eicher and Fendt for field tractors of various size classes; with the sale of the tractor division to Fendt in 1962, MAN's independent tractor manufacture in Nuremberg came to an end.
On used tractors, the MAN engine with injection pump or multi-fuel system, clutch and gearbox, hydraulics and linkage, brakes and sheet metal and frame for rust count; since the make has built no tractors for over six decades, parts now run only through specialists and collector markets.
