Lindner of Kundl in the Tyrolean Inn valley built its first tractor in 1948 and called it Bauernfreund – farmer's friend, BF – a name that became the programme: small, light tractors for the mountain farmers of Tyrol, Vorarlberg and South Tyrol, working on steep meadows and tight farmsteads where the tractors of the big makers are too heavy and too wide. The type logic: BF marks the range, the number the hp class – BF 14 about 14 hp, BF 22 22 hp, BF 30 30 hp, BF 45 about 45 hp – N the standard version with rear-wheel drive, A the four-wheel-drive version Lindner offered early because it is indispensable on slopes; GT on the BF 320 and a on the BF 45a are equipment and generation suffixes. The engines are bought-in two- and three-cylinder diesels of 1.0 to 2.5 litres at 2,400 to 2,800 rpm.
