The six-cylinder engines produce between 105.9 and 250 kW, with models rated in horsepower spanning 185 to 260 hp, at a displacement of 5,883 to 8,419 cm³. Recorded operating weight runs from 6,260 to 12,847 kg, and lift capacity of the recorded models reaches up to 10,000 kg.

A defining feature of the series is its four equal-size wheels combined with hydro-pneumatic suspension on both axles, giving the Fastrac a smoother ride than conventional tractors both in the field and on the road. JCB positions the range for farms and contractors with heavy transport demands. Buyers of a used unit should check the condition of the suspension components, which require more service attention than on unsprung tractors.

With a lift capacity of up to 10,000 kg and operating weights above 12 tonnes, the largest Fastrac models use a category III three-point hitch under ISO 730, otherwise needed only by heavy field tractors and self-propelled harvesters. The PTO is two-speed, at 540 and 1,000 rpm. The full suspension requires regular checks of the hydro-pneumatic cylinders and seals, which are under greater strain at the high travel speeds than on conventional tractors.
