The R series was the core tractor line of the Hanover-based manufacturer Hanomag and was built in numerous variants from 1942 to 1964. In 1971 Hanomag sold its agricultural machinery business to Massey Ferguson, marking the end of independent Hanomag tractor production. For a used R model, the exact type designation matters most, as engine and body style differ considerably across this long production run.
The entire production run of the R series, from 1942 to 1964, predates any EU emissions certification, which only began in 1999. Original parts for the R series are likewise scarce today, since Hanomag tractor production has not existed since 1971; they are mainly sourced through specialist vintage-machinery dealers.
