Güldner built the AF series in the 1950s at its home site in Aschaffenburg; the company had previously been known mainly as an engine maker before turning increasingly to tractor building. The four types AF 15, AF 20, AF 30 and AF 30 P are ordered by ascending power through the type number, with the P denoting a special version. In 1961 the hydraulics group Linde took over Güldner's tractor division. Before the Linde takeover, Güldner was regarded as a technically accomplished German engine maker, which was also reflected in the construction of the AF tractors.
