Grove Scissor Lift: scissor lifts from S1932E to SM3269XT with dual-fuel engines, around 14.9 kW, 1,341 to 4,037 kg weight, 1,770 to 3,910 mm length

Grove was originally an independent US crane manufacturer from Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, and now belongs to the Manitowoc group, under whose roof the scissor lift range on this page also runs. The S range (S1932E to S4088) covers electric and rough-terrain scissor lifts for indoor and outdoor working heights, while the SM range (SM2646E to SM3269XT) adds narrower versions for use in tighter aisles; the number in the type gives roughly the working height in feet. The rough-terrain models are powered by dual-fuel engines of the WG750 and DF750 type, running on petrol or LPG.

The register lists here 14 versions with around 14.9 kW, weights from 1,341 to 4,037 kg, lengths from 1,770 to 3,910 mm and widths from 830 to 2,240 mm.

Scissor lifts such as the Grove range are used in warehouses, exhibition build-outs and on construction sites for mid-height work, where the stable, vertical platform offers advantages over articulating lifts; Grove competes here chiefly with Genie, JLG and Haulotte.

For a used purchase, check the condition of the scissor bearings and pins, the tightness of the lift hydraulics, the function of the emergency lowering and overload cut-out, tyre condition, and on the dual-fuel engines the condition of the gas system; spare parts run through the Manitowoc-Grove dealer network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
