Genie scissor lifts GS-1530 to GS-5390 RT – the market leader from Redmond near Seattle: GS for Genie Scissor, the number as platform height in feet and width in inches, RT for rough terrain
Genie of Redmond, Washington, is with JLG the world's largest maker of aerial work platforms – founded in 1966 with a compressed-air hoist to which the company owes its name, part of Terex since 2002 and, with the GS-1930 scissor lift, maker of the most-hired platform in the world. The type logic follows the American convention: GS stands for Genie Scissor, the first digits give the platform height in feet, the last the platform width in inches – a GS-1930 is 19 ft (5.8 m) high and 30 in (760 mm) wide, a GS-3246 32 ft and 46 in, a GS-5390 RT 53 ft (16 m) and 90 in – the models without suffix are the electric indoor lifts, RT the diesel rough-terrain lifts with all-wheel drive and oscillating axle, DC the electric rough-terrain lifts with battery drive. The rough-terrain lifts run on Kubota diesels and the Ford DSG-423 petrol engine, the indoor lifts on 24-volt battery and electro-hydraulics.

The register lists 18 versions with capacities from 224 to 680 kg, service weights from 1,168 to 7,537 kg, lengths from 1,820 to 4,880 mm and widths from 760 to 2,292 mm; the rough-terrain lifts deliver 14.9 to 55.9 kW.
The GS range is the standard of every rental fleet: the GS-1930 fits through doors and into lifts, the GS-2646 and GS-3246 are the platforms of interior fit-out, the RT models those of façade and steel erectors.
On used lifts, operating hours, battery condition on electric models, play in scissor pins and rails, hydraulic tightness, the function of tilt and overload sensors and a valid periodic inspection count; parts run through the Genie network and are available worldwide.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
