Fendt 300 Vario – the compact Vario range from Marktoberdorf: 309 to 313 Vario with stepless transmission, Deutz four-cylinder 4,038 cm³, 66 to 88 kW / 90 to 138 hp
The Fendt 300 Vario is the manufacturer's compact entry-level range from Marktoberdorf in the Allgäu, part of the US group AGCO since 1997. It takes its name from the stepless Vario transmission, a hydrostatic-mechanical power-split unit with which Fendt went into series production in 1995 as the first tractor maker in the world; every Fendt range has carried the Vario suffix ever since. The models covered here, 309 to 313 Vario, are powered by a Deutz TCD 4.1 four-cylinder engine of 4,038 cm³ and can run on diesel or RME (rapeseed methyl ester); later versions of the range meet the emissions stage with AdBlue injection.

The register lists here 4 versions with 66 to 88 kW, or 90 to 138 hp, torque from 407 to 590 Nm at 2,100 rpm, unladen weights from 3,800 to 4,450 kg, a gross weight of 8,500 kg, a length of 4,150 mm and widths from 2,275 to 2,385 mm and heights from 2,760 to 2,800 mm.
As the most compact Vario range, the 300 series sits between classless standard tractors and the larger Vario ranges, aimed at mixed farms, grassland work and municipal use, where manoeuvrability and stepless travel speed matter; competitors include John Deere, Case IH and Deutz-Fahr among others.
On a used buy, what counts is the condition of the Vario transmission unit and its cooling, the tightness of the hydraulics, the condition of the front PTO where fitted, and corrosion on the wings and cab frame; spare parts and software updates run through AGCO's Fendt dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
