This page gathers the Fahr tractors the register could not assign to a named range – tractors of the brand from Gottmadingen on Lake Constance, founded in 1870 by Johann Georg Fahr as a maker of mowers and threshers, which entered tractor manufacture in the 1930s. In 1968 Fahr merged with Deutz to form Deutz-Fahr; the D types gathered here date from before that merger. The type logic is simple: D stands for diesel, the following number gives roughly the power class (D 17 around 17 hp, D 25 around 25 hp, D 30 around 30 hp), N and NA mark standard-track and four-wheel-drive versions, H the row-crop tractor with high ground clearance and narrow track, W the vineyard tractor. Early on, Fahr also sourced engines from Mercedes-Benz – the OM 636 series appears alongside the company's own Deutz engines – before the brand switched entirely to air-cooled Deutz diesels after the merger.

Alongside Deutz, Hanomag and Eicher, Fahr was one of the defining West German tractor brands of the post-war decades, with strongholds in southern Germany and exports to southern Europe; the air-cooled Deutz engines that became standard after the merger shaped the brand's technical legacy into the Deutz-Fahr era.
On used tractors, the early Mercedes-engined models call for checking the cooling system and injection pump, the air-cooled Deutz engines the condition of the blower and cooling fins, plus the state of clutch, gearbox and hydraulics and rust on sheet metal and mudguards; parts for the Deutz engines run through today's Deutz-Fahr network, for the Mercedes units only through specialists.
