The mosaic-go G5 P3 from Septentrio of Belgium is a small evaluation kit in a metal housing for the four-band module mosaic-G5 P3. It is not assigned to any particular drone class and is advertised for easy connection to open-source autopilots, that is, for development, testing and the first flights with the receiver.

The receiver works in four frequency bands and handles GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and NavIC. Several bands let the receiver remove the ionospheric delay, so the RTK solution arrives sooner and stays more stable with restricted sky view. For accuracy the shop states centimetre class in RTK operation. Connection is through USB-C, UART, a PPS signal for time synchronisation and an SD card slot for recording. The kit measures 74 x 44 x 11.4 mm and weighs 50 g.

A PPS signal is a clock pulse that arrives once per second exactly on the full GNSS second; with it, sensors and recordings can be put on a common clock, which matters in mapping and LiDAR. The kit is a development tool and not an aircraft itself: the duties of the EU drone regulation arise at the aircraft, where geo-awareness and remote identification (from class C1) rest on the GNSS position that such a receiver supplies. Correction data come from your own base, a radio link or an NTRIP service.

For selection the question is whether a kit or a ready-made flight module is needed. Ready-made modules based on the same chip are available from other manufacturers; the kit pays off when recording, PPS and free configuration are in the foreground. Upkeep includes firmware, checking the SD card before every flight, connectors and cables for strain, and an antenna with a clear view and a ground plane.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
