The mosaic-go from Septentrio of Belgium is an evaluation and integration kit that makes a mosaic-X5 or mosaic-H receiver accessible on a small board; it is classed for heavy multicopters. The heading variant uses the mosaic-H with two antennas.

For both possible chips Septentrio states RTK horizontally 0.6 cm + 0.5 ppm. The figure is the chip specification for both receivers. The 0.5 ppm means 0.5 mm of added error per kilometre of distance from the base. The kit uses among others the L2 P(Y) band, so more than one band, and outputs positions at 100 Hz. It measures 71 x 59 x 12 mm and weighs 58 g.

An evaluation kit serves to try the receiver out on the aircraft before it is built into your own electronics. Heavy multicopters quickly exceed the 25 kg limit of the open category; above it the specific category applies, with an operational authorisation. For photogrammetry and surveying, 100 Hz and the multi-band chip provide the basis for reducing ground control points; check points remain useful for verification. Correction data come from your own base, a radio link or an NTRIP service.

For selection the variant decides: the mosaic-X5 suffices when only position is needed; the mosaic-H pays off when heading from two antennas is also wanted, independent of the magnetic compass. Then the antenna spacing must be measured and entered, and both antennas placed with a clear view. Anyone using the kit in flight checks the mounting, cable strain and power supply and keeps the firmware current.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
