The Samsung INR21700-50S is a high-drain cell in the 21700 format from Samsung SDI, a South Korean battery maker. It is one of the INR21700 cells 40T, 50S and 50E that are common in lithium-ion packs for FPV and drones, and it combines 5.0 Ah with high current capability. It is intended for small FPV drones that need a lot of capacity and strong drives at the same time.
The cell stores 5,000 mAh at 3.6 V nominal voltage, which is 18.0 Wh. The continuous current is 25 A, which is 5C, calculated from current and capacity; at that current the cell is empty after twelve minutes. Dealers also quote 45 A, but only with cut-off at 80 °C: discharge ends as soon as the cell reaches that temperature, so the value is not a continuous current and does not belong in continuous-load planning. The weight is at most 72 g.
Six cells in series (6S1P) come to 108 Wh and so lie between the IATA limits of 100 and 160 Wh; there the airline must agree to carriage of spare batteries. A 6S2P pack with 216 Wh lies above the upper limit of 160 Wh. Lithium cells must meet the tests of UN 38.3 for transport and are packed protected against short circuit. Joining them into a pack belongs in a specialist workshop with test and protection equipment.
When choosing, the 25 A figure serves as the planning value, and the 45 A remains a reserve for brief peaks. The pack current should stay well below it, and with parallel cells it is shared. Heat speeds up ageing, in the cold the voltage sag grows, and high-drain cells of this kind are often counterfeited, so buy only from reputable dealers. The Samsung data sheet is authoritative.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
