The RadioMaster RP3 is an ExpressLRS diversity receiver for 2.4 GHz in nano format with two T-antennas for small FPV drones. It speaks CRSF and passes the control data serially to the flight controller. RadioMaster is based in Hong Kong. Unlike the single-antenna RP1, the RP3 brings a second one, and the receiver can use the better signal of the two.

The receiver weighs 4.6 g including both antennas. The packet rate is 500 Hz at most, 1000 Hz in F1000 mode, that is 2 ms or 1 ms between two control packets. This packet interval is not end-to-end latency. It sends telemetry at 100 mW at most and reports signal strength and battery voltage to the radio with it. Diversity helps when one antenna is shadowed by the frame or the battery.

In the EU the limit in the 2.4 GHz band without a licence is 100 mW EIRP; the 100 mW of telemetry sits at that limit, and antenna gain counts too. Equipment may be operated in the EU only in the approved frequency ranges and power levels. In the open category visual line of sight applies, and long ranges are no selection criterion there.

When choosing, the arrangement of the antennas counts: both should sit as far apart as possible and at right angles to each other, not side by side and not behind carbon fibre. The RP3 weighs more than a single-antenna receiver, and weight matters on micro drones. The ExpressLRS version of receiver and transmitter module has to match. Antennas and solder pads are the wear points in crashes.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
