The RadioMaster RP1 is a nano receiver for ExpressLRS 2.4 GHz with a T-antenna for small FPV drones. It passes the control data to the flight controller over the CRSF bus, so it needs no servo outputs, only a serial connection. RadioMaster is based in Hong Kong. The receiver comes from the factory with ExpressLRS v2.4.

It weighs 2.2 g including the antenna. The packet rate is 500 Hz at most, 1000 Hz in F1000 mode; that corresponds to a spacing of 2 ms or 1 ms between two control packets. This packet interval is not end-to-end latency. The RP1 sends telemetry at only 10 mW. That is clearly less than the 100 mW of other receivers, and the return channel carrying signal strength and battery voltage therefore reaches less far than the control channel, which the transmitter module in the radio carries.

In the EU the limit in the 2.4 GHz band without a licence is 100 mW EIRP; the 10 mW of telemetry is far below it, and the limit concerns mainly the transmitter module in the radio. Equipment may be operated in the EU only in the approved frequency ranges and power levels. In the open category visual line of sight applies, and long ranges are no selection criterion there.

When choosing, the T-antenna counts: it is a dipole in T shape whose orientation determines range, and it should be routed clear of carbon fibre and the battery. The ExpressLRS version of receiver and transmitter module has to match, otherwise binding fails. The antenna and the solder pads are the wear points in crashes, and a broken antenna has to be replaced.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
