The HOBBYWING XRotor 2207.5 1780KV is a brushless FPV outrunner for 5-inch quadcopters, designed for freestyle flying on 6S. Hobbywing is a Chinese maker of drives and speed controllers and pairs this motor with its XRotor FPV G2 65A 4-in-1 controller (ESC). The case measures 28 mm in diameter and 19.9 mm in height.

At 1,780 KV the motor turns roughly 39,500 rpm unloaded on 6S (22.2 V nominal). The stator code 2207.5 stands for 22 mm diameter and 7.5 mm height, half a millimetre more stack height than the 2207 type. The motor weighs 38 g. As peak values Hobbywing quotes 988 W and 41 A for 3 s, and the maximum thrust is 1,827 g. The propeller named is the Gemfan GF-51477.

At 3 s this is the shortest time basis makers use for power figures; the range runs up to 180 s. A 3 s value describes the jolt when the throttle is opened, not the load in flight, and it cannot be compared with the 30 s or 180 s value of another motor. The 41 A stays below the 65 A of the paired controller. The thrust of 1,827 g holds only with a particular propeller and a particular voltage and is useful only against values taken under the same conditions. For the rules, the whole drone counts: EU class by take-off mass, operator registration from 250 g or with a camera.

A freestyle motor takes ground contact, and bearings and shaft are what wear: grass and sand in the bearings show up as roughness and noise, a bent shaft as vibration that the flight controller sees in the gyro signal. The checks are the play of the bell against the stator, the phase resistances and the cable exits. If the motor is paired with a different controller, 6S remains the fixed point: the controller must carry the cell count and the 41 A peak current with headroom.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
