The Amprius SiCore SA112 is a cylindrical high-energy silicon-anode cell in the 21700 format from Amprius Technologies. The dimensions of 70.7 × 21.5 mm fit the round-cell format, in which the first digits give the diameter and the following ones the length in millimetres. It is intended for fixed-wing drones that are to stay aloft for a long time on little current.
The capacity of 6,500 mAh comes with 315 Wh/kg and 860 Wh/l; for a round cell that is a lot of energy per kilogram. At 2C the continuous discharge current is 13 A, calculated from C-rate and capacity. That is the order of magnitude of a fixed-wing cruise, but not a figure for drives that draw current continuously in the hover. 500 cycles are quoted.
A round cell only becomes a flight battery in the pack, through series and parallel wiring. Cell connectors, protection electronics and test equipment belong in the hands of a specialist workshop. Like every lithium cell, the SA112 must meet the tests of UN 38.3 for transport; spare cells are protected against short circuit by the original packaging or taped terminals. For air travel the IATA limits of 100 and 160 Wh apply to spare batteries.
When choosing, what matters is the ratio of cruise current to cell current: a pack with several parallel cells shares the load and lowers the stress on each cell. 500 cycles are a solid figure for silicon, but cycle figures refer to a fixed test profile, usually to 80 % remaining capacity. In cold weather keep the pack warm before flight and do not charge below freezing.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
