The AARTOS X9 from Aaronia AG (Germany) is a stationary long-range passive radio-frequency detection system based on real-time spectrum analysis and direction finding, monitoring 360 degrees. The manufacturer names airports, prisons, military use and critical infrastructure as fields of use.
The basic range is up to 14 km against commercial drones. For a long-range version up to 40 km is quoted, against military UAV up to 80 km according to trade press, and for a network of several X9 units up to 50 km. The values apply to different set-ups and target types and are not comparable with one another. The receive range is 400 MHz to 6 GHz, optionally 10 MHz to 8 GHz, which takes in the control links at 868 and 915 MHz and the connections at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. Real-time spectrum analysis shows the spectrum without gaps and also makes unusual radio links visible.
The detector does not transmit and does not interfere with the drone’s radio link. Whether and how receiving and evaluating third-party radio signals is permitted (secrecy of telecommunications, data protection) has to be clarified for Germany and Poland before use. Jammers, by contrast, may be operated only by authorities in Germany and Poland (Section 91 TKG, Article 42 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law).
In selection: the 14 km is the value for commercial drones, and higher figures belong to other set-ups or targets. As a stationary system the X9 needs a mast with a clear view, power and a network connection; only a network of several sites yields positions rather than directions. The signature library needs upkeep, and for antennas and cables connectors and lightning protection should be checked. Radio silence is the limit: drones that are autonomous or fibre-optic controlled stay invisible.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
