The Dodge Dakota arrived in 1987 as the first mid-size pickup with a factory-available V8, positioned between the compact Ram 50 and the full-size Ram, built at Chrysler's Warren Truck Assembly plant in Michigan. The Club Cab and Quad Cab body styles extended the standard two-seat cab with jump seats or full rear doors, while SLT, Sport and SE denote trim levels; the R/T and the Carroll Shelby co-developed Shelby Dakota were the sporting flagships with the large-displacement Magnum V8.
