The DAF XF510 FAT from 2016 is aimed at body-builder chassis with a high payload: 9,385 mm long, 2,550 mm wide, with an unladen weight of 12,470 kg against a permissible gross weight of 35,000 kg. The gap between the two figures gives the arithmetical reserve for body and cargo. It is driven by the 12,902 cm³ engine with 375 kW, which is the same in all variants of the XF510 series.
The gearbox offers 6 gears and is stepped rather compactly, which is enough for body-builder chassis in distribution work, where long stretches at high cruising speed are rare.
The width of 2,550 mm matches the European standard for bodies. Compared with the FAD of the same series the FAT is narrower and lighter, but it is not laid out for tractor-unit work: its role is distribution and construction-site haulage with a fixed body.
DAF XF510 – flagship long-haul tractor unit with the 510hp PACCAR MX-13 engine, 12,902cc, 27,000 to 42,000kg gross vehicle weight
The DAF XF has been the flagship series of the Eindhoven manufacturer since 1997; the current New XF generation is powered by the 12.9-litre six-cylinder MX-13, with the power level given by the number suffix in the name – XF510 denotes 510 horsepower. The abbreviations FAD, FAT, FTG, FTM and FTS denote DAF's respective chassis and cab variants. Since PACCAR's 1996 takeover of DAF, the company has shared the MX engine family technically with sister brands Kenworth and Peterbilt.

The register lists 6 versions rated at 375 kW from the six-cylinder MX-13 of 12,902cc, kerb weights of 8,800 to 16,270kg, gross vehicle weights of 27,000 to 42,000kg, lengths of 6,310 to 10,300mm and widths of 2,550 to 2,600mm.
The XF510 ranks among the top-power units in long-haul transport and competes with the strongest models of the Mercedes-Benz Actros, Volvo FH and Scania; DAF positions the MX-13 engines on fuel consumption and torque as its case for long-distance haulage. In European long-haul transport the XF ranks among the best-selling heavy trucks and is widely used as a tractor unit for cross-border freight.
When buying: check the mileage and service history of the MX-13 engine, the condition of the clutch and gearbox (AS Tronic or TraXon), the brake system and air suspension, and the frame and fifth wheel on tractor units; spare parts and servicing run through DAF's dense dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
