Challenger – other models: the collective page of tractors outside the named ranges, from the compacts MT225 to MT295 through the wheeled MT425 to MT695 to the tracked MT700 and MT800, 17 to 471 kW, Caterpillar
This page gathers the Challenger tractors the register could not assign to a named range – the brand Caterpillar founded in 1987 with the Challenger 65, the first agricultural tracked tractor with rubber belts, and sold in 2002 to AGCO, which used the name until 2022 for a complete tractor programme. The type logic of the AGCO era: MT stands for the brand, the first digit for the range – MT200 the compacts of Iseki manufacture, MT300 and MT400 the small and medium ones, MT500 and MT600 the four- and six-cylinder wheeled tractors created as sister models of the Massey Ferguson 5400 to 8400 in Beauvais, MT700 and MT800 the rubber-tracked tractors from Jackson, Minnesota, MT900 the articulated ones – the following digits the power step and B, C, D and E the generations; 2WD and MFWD distinguish rear- and four-wheel drive. The engines are Caterpillar (C6.6, C15, C18) in the tracked and articulated tractors of the early years, AGCO Power (Sisu) in the later ones and Iseki in the compacts; the register span of 1.1 to 18.1 litres shows that breadth.

The register lists here 99 versions with 16.8 to 470.5 kW from three- to seven-cylinders of 1,123 to 18,124 cm³, PTO outputs from 18 to 533 hp, lift capacities from 268 to 8,845 kg, unladen weights from 720 to 27,216 kg and lengths from 1,480 to 7,570 mm.
The Challenger MT700 and MT800 remained to the last the benchmark of the tracked tractor against which John Deere set its 8RT and 9RT and Case IH the Quadtrac; since 2022 the machines run as Fendt MT.
On used tracked tractors the condition of rubber belts, rollers and drive wheels (the most expensive item) counts, on all of them operating hours, engine and exhaust aftertreatment, powershift or stepless transmission, hydraulics and electronics; parts run through AGCO and, for the Cat engines, through Caterpillar.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
