Case International 95 series (1986–1993) – the David Brown heirs from Meltham: 495 to 995, the final digits 95 as series, the first digit as size class, DT for four-wheel drive
The 95 series comes from Meltham in Yorkshire, the David Brown plant Case had taken over in 1972: after the merger of Case and International Harvester in 1985 the David Brown tractors continued in red as Case International, and the 95s were the range with which the brand replaced the 94s – until Case IH closed the Meltham plant in 1988 and moved production to Doncaster. The type logic: the final digits 95 mark the series, the first digit orders the size in ascending order – 495 about 50 hp, 595 about 60, 695 about 70, 795 about 75, 895 about 85, 995 about 90 hp – DT four-wheel drive. The engines are David Brown's own three- and four-cylinder diesels of 2.9 to 4.4 litres at 2,180 to 2,400 rpm, the transmissions David Brown's synchromesh gearboxes with the Hydra-Shift powershift step in the larger models; the hydraulics carried David Brown's Selectamatic system.

The register lists 6 versions with 38.2 to 66.2 kW from three- and four-cylinders of 2,933 to 4,389 cm³, torque from 182 to 299 Nm, unladen weights from 2,358 to 3,113 kg, lengths from 3,454 to 3,845 mm, widths from 1,676 to 1,981 mm and heights from 2,375 to 2,670 mm.
The 95s are still at work on small farms in Britain and Ireland today and are the last tractors with David Brown technology; the successors 3200 and 4200 from Doncaster came with IH engines from Neuss.
On used tractors, operating hours, engine condition and injection pump, clutch, gearbox and Hydra-Shift, Selectamatic hydraulics, four-wheel-drive clutch on DT models and sheet metal count; parts run through Case IH and David Brown specialists in Britain.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
