Case International 4200 series, types 4210 DT to 4230 DT – four-wheel-drive four-cylinder diesels from Doncaster: 51.5 to 60.3 kW, 2,998 to 3,099 kg, 3,909 to 4,389 cm³
Case International was the brand name under which Case and International Harvester appeared jointly after their 1985 merger until the mid-1990s, before the brand became Case IH. The 4200 series with the types 4210, 4220 and 4230 covered the mid power class; the designation DT denotes the four-wheel-drive version. The joint brand was meant to signal to customers that the long-established sales and service networks of both companies were retained after the merger.

The register lists 3 versions with 51.5 to 60.3 kW from four-cylinder diesel engines of 3,909 to 4,389 cm³ displacement, torque of 250 to 289 Nm at 2,300 to 2,400 rpm. Unladen weights range from 2,998 to 3,099 kg, lengths from 3,510 to 3,759 mm, widths from 1,854 to 2,080 mm and heights from 2,620 to 2,666 mm.
As general-purpose tractors with four-wheel drive, the 4200 series was designed for mid-sized arable and grassland farms and competed directly with comparable series from Ford, Massey Ferguson and Deutz-Fahr. A synchronised shuttle shift and a cab with reduced noise levels were among the improvements that set the series apart from older Case models.
When buying used, what counts is the operating hours and condition of the four-cylinder diesel, clutch and gearbox, the condition of the four-wheel drive and front axle, and the tightness of the hydraulics; parts now run through the Case IH dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
