The MAGNUM series from Case IH includes the 7250 PRO/8950. Production: 1997–1999. The engine delivers 261 hp (192 kW), has 6 cylinders, with a displacement of 8,268 cm³. Torque is 1,046 Nm. Rated speed is 2,200 rpm. The machine is 5,090 mm long, 3,048 mm wide and 3,077 mm high. The unladen weight is 8,318 kg. The wheelbase measures 3,006 mm. Ground clearance is 489 mm. Top speed is 30 km/h. The tank holds 359 litres. Transmission: 24 V/6 R. The engine is water-cooled. Tyres: front 16.9 R 30 AS, rear 20.8 R 42 AS. The fuel is Diesel/RME. The bore measures 114 mm. The stroke is 135 mm. The compression ratio is 16.5:1. Construction: frame construction. The linkage is category III. The MAGNUM series covers 97 models. Rated output within it ranges from 155 to 344.7 hp; the 7250 PRO/8950 sits in the middle of that range with 261 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the Magnum 250 below it with 251 hp and the Magnum 280 above it with 279 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 7,525 to 13,426.3 kg; here the 7250 PRO/8950 sits at the bottom of that range with 8,318 kg. 1222 Case IH models across 76 series are on record.

Case IH Magnum 7100 and 7200 — the big six, built 1988 to 1999, 110 to 296 kW and Operating Weight from 7,525 to 13,426.3 kg

The Magnum was presented in 1987 as successor to the International 50 in the standard tractor role; series production began in 1988. The first range carried the numbers 7110, 7120, 7130 and 7140 — four large tractors, later joined by a fifth model.

What they share is the engine: a turbocharged six-cylinder of 8.3 litres. Rated power across the range ran from 155 to 230 hp, with peak output reaching up to 246 or 264 hp at the top. The rising number therefore maps the power step, not the machine size — all models share the same base tractor.

In 1997 the 7100 range became the 7200, again with five models, the 7250 closing it at the top. The Pro designation marks the revised version. Later came the MX Magnum range, with which Case IH carried the visually ageing concept forward.

For the used market this means a 7120 and a 7220 are closely related but roughly a decade apart. Comparing two offers, do not look at the number alone but at year and version — the figure describes a position in the range, not the age of the machine.

With rated outputs of up to 296 kW, the most powerful Magnum models reached ISO 730 Category IV for the rear three-point hitch, while the smaller versions stayed within Category III; a standard dual-speed power take-off at 540 and 1,000 revolutions per minute served heavy tillage implements.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
