Bungartz & Peschke Kommutrac – the Munich implement carriers 8501 to 8509 for municipal work and landscaping, petrol and diesel, 1950s/60s
Bungartz & Peschke was a Munich maker of implement carriers built under the name Kommutrac for municipal and agricultural use. The 8501, 8502 A, 8507 and 8509 models from the 1950s and 1960s were designed as carriers for interchangeable mounted implements, as used in road maintenance and public green-space work, with two- to four-cylinder engines available in petrol or diesel form.

The register lists here 4 versions with two- to four-cylinder engines of 1,493 to 2,014 cm³ displacement and a uniform width of 1,005 mm; the fuel recorded is mostly petrol, with diesel on one model.
As an implement carrier, the Kommutrac occupied a niche between classic field tractors and pure municipal vehicles, as also built for similar purposes by makers such as Holder or Kramer, and targeted towns, municipalities and horticultural businesses that needed one vehicle with interchangeable tools for sweeping, mowing and winter road service.
Used, the Kommutrac calls for checking engine condition and the carburettor or injection pump depending on fuel type, the condition of the mounting interfaces for interchangeable implements, clutch and transmission, and brakes and hydraulics; because of the low production numbers, parts are today mostly available only through collectors and specialist dealers rather than a regular supply chain.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
