Valmet began building tractors in 1951 in Linnavuori, Finland; from the 1960s some export models carried the Valtra name, and in 1997 the tractor divisions of Valmet and the Finnish engine maker Sisu merged into the new Valtra Oy, part of AGCO since 2004. The type logic is simple: the base number orders class and model year, the "-4" suffix marks four-wheel drive (nelivetoinen), and Hitech denotes a higher equipment level. The engines come from Sisu Diesel of Nokia, Finland, later AGCO Power.
