AM General, headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, grew out of American Motors' commercial-vehicle division and has built the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) since 1985, known in both military and civilian use as the Humvee; from 1992 the company also sold a civilian version, the Hummer H1. This page gathers, alongside the HMMWV variants M998, M1097, M1123, M1152, M1165A1 and M1167, heavier military trucks of the M923 and M925 series, which trace back to the commercial-vehicle traditions of REO and Kaiser Jeep, from which AM General emerged in 1970.
