With the UR III generation, Zetor replaced the preceding Crystal series (UR II) from the 1990s onward, still built at the home plant in Brno. Type numbers 7520 to 10540 reflect the power class in horsepower in their first two digits, while the last two digits, 20 and 40, distinguish the drive type at Zetor: models ending in 20 are two-wheel-drive tractors, models ending in 40 are four-wheel-drive versions of the same base type. All four sizes in this range share the same four-cylinder engine of 4.16 litres displacement.

The UR III series targeted medium-sized farms in central and eastern Europe and, after the political changes of the 1990s, stood for the first time in direct competition with western European brands such as Fendt, Deutz-Fahr and Case IH, which were newly pushing into the Czech and Slovak markets.
When buying used, check the condition of the clutch and gearbox, tightness of the hydraulic pump, on the four-wheel-drive models additionally the front axle differential and driveshafts, and corrosion on the wings and cab floor. Parts are well available through Zetor's distribution and a dense network of eastern European specialist dealers.
